Measure out from that nail to where the other face of your wall will be and place another nail.
So if your wall is 8 inches wide your two nails should be 8 inches apart.
Level to level blocks lengthwise and a torpedo level to level the front to back.
Measure from the edge of your concrete footing to the point where the outside face of your wall will be.
So to make a retaining wall that will last as long as life you should consider going with concrete blocks.
Refer to the plan or schematic for the retaining wall.
If the wall exceeds four feet in height footings should be poured separately.
