Next measure the area and make calculations so you know how much of your chosen materials to buy. This is part two of the porch build where i am doing the roof. In a fink truss the internal joists are arranged in a w shape ensuring even weight distribution from one end to the other. Build a fink truss to bolster a floor roof or deck.

To build your gable roof you ll need wooden boards cut into joists rafters supports and a ridge board in addition to sheathing felt paper and shingles. Line up the top of the batten with your chalk line and fix with a nail to every rafter across the length of the roof. Putting it together is relatively straight forward if you have basic carpentry skills and use precise measurements. Make sure you use the right size timber battens for your roof tiles do check with your supplier if you are unsure. I show how i construct it showning in detail how to do the lead flashing.
