Take it down and replace it with a sliding barn door.
To determine the door width add at least two inches to the width of the opening or to the outside dimensions of the door trim.
The vertical pieces 2x4s are cut to the true length of the door but the top and bottom pieces need a little extra math.

Slightly tighten all of the boards with c clamps.
To do this we started by gluing and screwing the bottom rail to both sides stiles.
It s time to assemble the frame of the barn door.

Not only did it solve the problem but it added another element of visual interest to the room.
Lay all of the boards with nice side up or rough side up if using barn siding.
Determine the width of the last t g piece to build up the door to an exact 75 width.
Next glue and screw the bottom mullion to the bottom rail and middle rail.
Measure from both corners of the door before screwing the middle rail to the stiles.
Hang the door step 11 13 before you begin measure the width of the door from the outside edges of the casing then order a hardware kit with a track twice that width.
Sliding doors should extend at least an inch beyond the sides of the opening that don t have trim or an inch beyond the moldings of openings with trim.
This will ensure that your door is square.
I was able to build this one in about 30 minutes.
